Prophetic ministry

Ellen G. White

Her writings are an important part of the Adventist heritage and a meaningful guide for Christian life, health, mission, and the study of Scripture.

How we use her writings

The Red Heifer Project affirms the Seventh-day Adventist understanding that Ellen G. White's ministry manifested the gift of prophecy. At the same time, we do not treat her writings as a replacement for the Bible. Scripture remains the foundation and the standard by which teaching is tested.

Read the Bible first

When we study a subject, we begin with the biblical text and its context. We then consider the wider biblical story, the Adventist theological framework, and relevant Ellen White material. Historical and scientific sources are brought in where they genuinely help.

Context matters

Short quotations can easily be made to say more than their original context allows. For that reason, we want to identify the work, locate the quotation as precisely as possible, read the surrounding material, and ask what principle she was actually addressing.

The goal is understanding, not quotation collecting. A paragraph from Ellen White is most useful when it helps illuminate Scripture, deepen Christian practice, or clarify a principle within its proper setting.

Areas we will study

Future material will draw especially from works such as The Ministry of Healing, Medical Ministry, Counsels on Health, Counsels on Diet and Foods, The Desire of Ages, Patriarchs and Prophets, Education, and The Great Controversy.
